With two million people predicted to attend this year’s Notting Hill Carnival, Londoners have been warned to plan for road closures and reduced services.

Transport for London has requested people avoid the area if possible and has recommended carnival-goers use trains and the Tube to avoid the heavily congested roads around west London.

Roads will be closed off to cars around Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park until 5pm on Tuesday.

TFL announced that busses will be diverted and may be terminating early and that tube stations may be closing temporarily to avoid overcrowding.

The TFL website says: “It may be worthwhile walking part of your journey or finding an alternative route.

Roads closed from Sunday:

Westbourne Park Road (Great Western Road to Ladbroke Grove)

Elgin Crescent

Kensington Park Road (Westbourne Grove to Elgin Crescent)

Cambridge Gardens (St Marks Road to Ladbroke Grove)

“Tube and rail will be the best way to get around London during the weekend.

"If you can, avoid parts of west London, or allow extra time for your journey.

“There will be extra day and night buses serving the Notting Hill Carnival, but buses in west London are expected to be busier than usual.”
