New editors at Independent and i newspapers

 

Three new editors have been appointed at the Independent newspaper titles, owner Evgeny Lebedev announced today.

The new editor of the Independent is Amol Rajan, currently comment editor. The 29-year-old replaces Chris Blackhurst, who is promoted to group content director.

Oliver Duff, also 29 and currently news editor of the Independent, becomes editor of I, while Lisa Markwell is confirmed as editor of the Independent on Sunday.

Ian Walker, deputy editor of the Evening Standard also becomes group head of news.

Mr Lebedev said: “Our goal is to develop a pioneering and integrated newsroom for the 21st Century, providing print, digital and television output 24/7.”

Evening Standard editor Sarah Sands said: “"This is an exciting new phase for the company and the Evening Standard is delighted to play its significant part in it."
