Firefighters rescued commuters from a flooded Tube station today after London was hit by a second day of flash floods caused by torrential downpours.

Several passengers were carried to safety at North Harrow Tube station after flooding reached the stairs of two platforms on the Metropolitan line.

Trains continued to run through the station, which was closed from about 4pm.

Cars on the road outside the station were almost completely submerged underwater in scenes similar to flooding in south London on Tuesday.

Three children were also reportedly rescued from the roof of a car after they became trapped by floodwaters.

Pictures and video emerged on Twitter of at least four vehicles swamped by water as pedestrians waded past the cars through the flood.

One Twitter account, Bluelight TV, wrote: "@Londonfire in North Harrow after flash floods #notjustfires."

Rob Jones tweeted: "I doubt North Harrow will open again today judging by the amount of flooding in the ticket hall and on the road."

He also shared a picture of the flooding and said: "North Harrow a short time ago. The station is flooded and inaccessible."

Kishan added: "Well North Harrow is hella flooded."

Laura Fairbank shared a snapchat video of one man wading through the flood barefoot, captioned: "The struggle is real in North Harrow."

North Harrow station reopened at about 9.30pm.

Firefighters were called to nearly 30 incidents of shops, homes and even a cinema being swamped by the heavy rain this afternoon.

Overground and main line Southern Railway services through south London met with major delays after a lightning strike damaged signalling equipment.
