Firefighters from across London were enlisted to tackle a large blaze at a pizza takeaway shop in south east London on Saturday evening.

London Fire Brigade were called to Pizza GoGo in Lee High Road at 7.20pm on November 28 and 10 pumps were sent to help extinguish the fire.

A total of 72 firefighters from stations including Greenwich, Lee Green, Plumstead, Forest Hill and Soho were sent to the scene, with many still present more than three hours later.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said 50 per cent of the ground floor was alight.

The spokesman added: "Staff and customers left the restaurant before the arrival of the brigade as well as two adults and two children from the flat above."

Nobody is believed to have been injured in the blaze.

Artur Mielcark, 27, general manager of Rox Burger, said businesses were forced to close and buildings were evacuated as emergency services were scrambled to the scene.

He told the Standard: "First I smelt the smoke and I went in to the kitchen and checked if everything was ok and they said it was fine but they could smell it as well.
