Torrents of water are seen gushing through the streets of Islington in dramatic images taken after flooding hit an upmarket swathe of north London.

A woman was pictured being carried to safety as 50 homes and businesses were evacuated in the early hours of Monday morning.

The pipe burst in Upper Street, Islington, around 5am, leaving popular shopping streets submerged.

Police officers for the Met’s marine units and fire crews were spotted wading through several feet of water in a bid to lead residents to safety.
