Thrilling: a powerboat ride on the Thames

As one of the top tourist cities in the world, there are thousands of ways to enjoy London.

But looking down on the tip of the Shard from a helicopter may be one of the most spectacular.

The experience, offered by The London Helicopter, is one of a number of activities which make up the ultimate day out which has been put together by mophie, a Californian-based technology company which invited the Evening Standard to “do more”.

After taking off from the Battersea heliport, guests are flown along the Thames at 1,000 feet from Putney to Greenwich, hovering above the landmarks.

But after a swift 20 minutes, visitors will be brought back down to earth by the price tag.

A shared experience with other members of the public costs £199 per person, while a private flight for a group of six is £995.

The next stop is a behind-the-scenes tour of Sea Life at London Aquarium, where guests are able to observe baby fish, sharks and turtles as they flourish in quarantine before meeting its Antarctic penguins.

Rather fittingly, a meal at Aqua on the 31st floor of the Shard is next on the menu. Panoramic views are the perfect backdrop to the house’s favourite Veuve Clicquot champagne and smoked eel starter.

Then it’s a powerboat ride on the Thames. The Thames Rib Experience, with prices starting at £23 per person for a 20-minute tour, travels as far as the barrier at around 50mph. Jumping through the wake of slower moving vessels, it blasts the 007 theme tune through speakers.

This finishes in time for cocktail hour, with a cab ride to Shoreditch for drinks at The Ace Hotel. Its basement nightclub also hosts budding musical stars from around the world.

Icelandic indie artist Ólöf Arnalds recently appeared and the hotel’s next concert, by Tom Williams & The Boat, is on May 27.

Our day out, while not available as a package deal, is mophie’s example of what can be achieved in one day when living the #mophielife — the company’s answer to a modern, luxurious lifestyle. Adventures can be relived having been documented with the mophie space pack, the UK’s first charging iPhone case which gives users an added 32GB of storage to their iPhones.

Up to 16,000 photos and 9,000 songs can be stored in the case which doubles battery life for the iPhone 5 and 5s. “We live in a new world now where people are constantly connected to each other and to each other’s experiences,” said Kevin Malinowksi, the company’s marketing and media manager.

“Mophie products are not only accessories to this lifestyle but they enhance and enable it by letting people use their phones without worrying they’ll run out of juice.” A 16GB model costs £139 while the 32GB is £169. Both are available at mophie.com.
