Gap year for doing good in UK

Recruiting: Jack Graham aims to attract entrepreneurs from all backgrounds
10 April 2012

A pilot scheme to encourage young Londoners to spend their gap year doing good in Britain will be launched this year, the pioneer behind it announced today.

Jack Graham, 28, revealed that the first 12 would be recruited in September to work with various charities as he left the Room for London on the South Bank, where he was the second winner of the Ideas for London competition run by the Standard with Artangel.

An idea a month is being selected for discussion with a panel of experts. Mr Graham, who works for the Young Foundation, talked to Southbank Centre artistic director Jude Kelly and social entrepreneur Charlie Leadbeater about his plans for Year Here.

Mr Graham said it "was about working with ambitious and entrepreneurial people of all backgrounds, who are hopefully going to become the leaders of the future."
