The fund to buy vital medical equipment for Thusha Kamaleswaran has soared to £125,000 as the six-year-old was moved into a new specially adapted home.
Thusha, who was shot in the chest after being caught in a gang feud while playing in her uncle’s shop, will need round-the-clock care for the rest of her life.
The Met detectives who investigated her case were so touched by her plight they launched an appeal to raise money for her.
The family have been moved by Redbridge council from their tiny home in Ilford to a bigger house nearby, to help accommodate her needs. Thusha’s heart stopped twice after she was shot at Stockwell Food and Wine store in March last year.
She is confined to a wheelchair with severe spine injuries which have left her in constant pain and she is paralysed from the chest down.
Scotland Yard’s Trident team, who launched the fund, are now preparing to do the Three Peaks challenge in September to raise more money.
A spokesman for Thusha’s family said: “Thusha and her family have been overwhelmed. They would like to thank everyone who has donated, but especially the police officers who are doing the fundraising event.”
Nathaniel Grant, 21, Kazeem Kolawole, 19, and Anthony McCalla, 20, were convicted of causing grievous bodily harm to Thusha. They will be sentenced tomorrow.
