A female motorcyclist is in hospital after being hit by a van in east London.

Police and London Ambulance Service could not immediately confirm the woman's age or condition.

The smash happened in Dalston Lane, Hackney, near the junction with Cecilia Road at about 9am on Wednesday.

Dalston Lane was shut between Amhurst Road and Graham Road and three bus routes have been diverted, the BBC reported.

A worker at Dev’s Chemist opposite the junction told the Standard: “The ambulance had just arrived as I got to work – it was trying to get through the traffic but there was a lorry blocking it.

“She was lying down – they tried to move her head but she was in pain.

"I couldn’t see the bike well because there was a crowd of people, but it was a black motorbike.

“The van was like a minivan.”

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 8.55am to Dalston Lane to reports of a road traffic collision.

“We sent an ambulance crew to the scene.

“We treated a woman at the scene and took her to a hospital in East London.”
