Family’s vigil after boy, 17, is stabbed twice in Tottenham street

Stabbing: West Green Road in Tottenham
19 August 2013

The family of a teenager stabbed in the street were at his hospital bedside today as he fought for life.

The 17-year-old and another teenager were attacked in Tottenham at around 4.30am on Saturday.

One of the boys left a trail of blood as he staggered hundreds of yards from the scene to seek the safety of a friend’s house on a nearby estate.

The friend, also 17, who did not wish to be named, told the Standard: “One of the boys was stabbed twice in the back and the other was stabbed twice in his arm and once below his heart.” He said both lived locally and were popular.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene yards from a school in West Green Road. A suspect, who was described as black and wearing a hooded top, reportedly threw a knife into some bushes after fleeing the scene. The weapon was later recovered by police, according to locals.

The two boys remain in an east London hospital. One is in a critical condition and the other is said to be stable. The incident comes two years after one boy was killed and three more injured in a stabbing in the same street.

Serif Aslan, a paranoid schizophrenic, knifed 15-year-old Kasey Gordon in the heart yards from his school in Tottenham. The boy collapsed and bled to death. Aslan was jailed for life at the Old Bailey last year.

A resident, who declined to be named, said she was scared by the latest incident. She added: “It used to be really bad here with gang fighting.

“Things had got better since the riots, until this happened. I’m worried about my brother, he’s 17 and I hope he doesn’t get involved in stuff like this.”

In April two teenagers were stabbed and injured in another knife attack in Tottenham.

Detectives from Haringey CID are investigating Saturday’s attack and appealed for witnesses.

A Met spokesman said : “At this early stage, officers believe a male suspect ran from the scene along West Green Road.” He said there had been no arrests.
