Remain campaign posters that never saw the light of day during the EU referendum were today released for the first time.

The publicity material, drawn up to help Britain stay in the EU, includes the image of a grenade with the caption "Once out, the pin can't be put back in" and a picture of a person standing on the edge of a cliff.

It is accompanied by the words: "What will life be like if we leave?"

The images were posted on the Campaign website as an exercise to raise awareness with voters still “emotionally engaged” over last Thursday’s referendum, ad bosses said.

M&C Saatchi CEO Moray MacLennan told the website: “We never normally release work that we produced on behalf of a client but that hasn’t run.

“But this time is different. We are still emotionally engaged, the issue is – and will remain – of vital importance and it might help to air some of these ideas.”

A total of 17.4 million people across Britain chose to quit the EU winning the vote by a margin of more than 1.2 million votes.

But in London, Remain claimed 2.2 million votes compared to 1.5 million for Leave.
