This is the dramatic moment a car burst into flames on a road in south-east London.

Flames engulfed the car on Shooters Hill Road, Blackheath, as thick black smoke billowed in to the air.

Metropolitan Police Officers and fire crews rushed to the blaze, close to Greenwich Park, just after midnight.

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said: “We were called at 12.13am this morning to reports of a car on fire on Shooters Hill at the junction with Goffers Road.

“One fire crew from East Greenwich attended the scene.

“The fire was out by 1.40am.”

Police sealed off the road for an hour while fire fighters dealt with the blaze.

No one was injured in the fire.

Just six-hours earlier a second car was engulfed in flames in a residential street in Lewisham.
