Battersea Power Station flats launch date set to send sales through the roof

Hot property: penthouses on the roof could cost £30m
21 February 2014

More than 250 apartments inside and on top of Battersea Power Station will go on sale on May 1 sparking a frenzy for homes in one of London’s most celebrated buildings.

They will range in size from studios to huge five-bed “villas in the sky” beneath the famous towers that have been a London landmark since 1933.

Prices will not be announced until April but the homes are certain to be at a major premium to the first phase of flats sold in a new block called Circus West next to the former generator.

They were launched in January last year at about £1,100 per sq ft with studios starting from £350,000.

The Malaysian-owned developers said Londoners “will finally be able to buy a piece of the power station”. They also countered fears that many flats would be snapped up and left empty by “buy to leave” foreign investors.

The apartments will be marketed “only in London” with no roadshows to the Far East — even if that slows down the pace of sales. Potential buyers can register from noon today but will have to attend sales appointments at the power station once the apartments go on the market.

Rob Tincknell, chief executive of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said: “This building is an old friend to people in London. They have had to put up with it as a derelict wreck for 30 years.

Agents have estimated that the biggest penthouses on the power station roof, with sweeping views of Chelsea and Westminster, could fetch as much as £30 million,

“Now it is part of an extraordinary regeneration with £800 million being spent on turning it into one of the most exciting buildings in the world.

“We feel it is right that it is reserved for people who call London their home.”
