Battersea Ferrari crash: Witnesses describe shocking moment teenager thrown in air and over railings

Witnesses have told of the shocking moment a teenager was thrown into the air and over a set of railings after a Ferrari mounted the pavement in south-west London.

One onlooker said she felt sick after the “nightmare” crash, which sent a boy hurling over the railings and smashing onto a car.

Six people were rushed to hospital after the dramatic crash opposite Battersea Power Station on Monday morning.

Photos from the scene show a sleek red Ferrari with its windscreen cracked on one side after reports a car had hit a group of teenagers on Battersea Park Road.

Student Jess Wilcox was waiting for an Uber opposite Battersea Power Station when she saw the impact, which left her “shaken”.

Describing the moment the crash happened, the 22-year-old told the Standard: "There were probably between 20 and 25 kids walking towards him on the pavement.

"I saw one lad go up over the railings. He went quite high and smashed into a car on the other side."

She described the group of teenagers screaming and five other children laying injured on the pavement.

“I think they were aged between 14 and 17,” she said.

"I saw cars just stop and people got out to help and there were some guys from Battersea Power Station who ran over as well.

"All the kids ran down to get their friend at the bottom and they were just screaming.

"There was a lot of crying and people shouting 'oh my god'.

"Everyone was just running around to try and help before the paramedics came."

She added: "I just felt sick. I didn't know what to do.

"I was very shaken. I wanted to go and help but there were so many people. It was just a nightmare.”

A spokesman for the Met Police said they were called at just before 10.30am on Monday to reports of the collision.

The driver, who stopped at the scene, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous and is in police custody.
