A baby girl was found dead at an address in Chesham this morning.

Police and ambulance crews were called to a property in Deansway, Buckinghamshire, just after 9.30am.

Officers pronounced the baby dead at the scene and she was taken by ambulance to Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

The mother of the baby has also been taken to hospital as a routine procedure.

A spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police said: "Police were called to Deansway, Chesham this morning at 9.30am to an unexplained death of a young baby.

"Mother and baby were taken to hospital as a standard procedure to accompany the baby."

Earlier reports suggested the mother was "seriously injured" but police have said the claims are untrue.

Police have described the death as "unexplained" and said their investigation is at an early stage.
