He has guided a student from Singapore around London using a series of cryptic clues, helped a budding photographer who wanted honest criticism and even set a single man up on a date — all in the name of kindness.
The Londoner, known only as the Free Help Guy, has decided to devote half a year of his life to anonymously helping others who send him requests via the internet.
He started last month by posting an advert on Gumtree as he had a gap of six months between jobs in marketing. Since then he has been inundated with about 10 requests a day for help.
He said: “By far and away the most asked question is people asking for help finding a job, probably a sign of the times. Some are looking for work cleaning the streets, others who have been made redundant on six-figure salaries. I’ve been brought to tears by some of the emails. Teenagers with anorexia, depression, it’s really touching.”
If somebody is very troubled he puts them in touch with relevant charities.
One of his most ambitious tasks was steering Gillian Chin, 19, around London after she got in touch asking for tips on what to do during her 10-hour visit. He supplied a one-day travel card and hat and sent her on a “virtual treasure hunt” to different tourist attractions sending her cryptic clues visit Twitter.
