Scotland Yard is considering launching an investigation into alleged perjury by witnesses at the Stephen Lawrence murder trial.

Detectives have been reviewing testimony given during the landmark case and have sent "initial papers" to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Gary Dobson and David Norris were convicted at the Old Bailey of the racist murder of the aspiring architect in 1993.

Now Metropolitan Police officers and prosecutors are analysing evidence given during the trial last month. A CPS spokesman said: "We have received some initial papers from the police in relation to potential perjury allegations during the Lawrence trial. We will continue to talk to police. It is part of ongoing liaison in relation to all issues in the Lawrence case".

Police and prosecutors both refused to reveal which witness or witnesses could be investigated.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We continue to liaise with the CPS on a number of matters, including allegations of perjury, as part of our ongoing work following the trial."
