A woman has come forward after realising she is missing £7m of gold following the Hatton Garden heist.

The woman, who says one of her safety deposit boxes was stolen in the audacious raid, only realised the fortune was missing last year.

The heist took place over the Easter bank holiday weekend in April 2015.

Her claim is believed to increase the total stolen in the raid, which is already the biggest burglary in English history, to £21m.

The Met Police say they are taking the matter seriously.

A spokesman said: "In February 2016, police received an allegation of theft from a security box relating to the Hatton Garden burglary in April, 2015.

"The victim is alleging the loss of a substantial amount of property.

"The investigation is ongoing."

Seven members of the gang, dubbed the “Diamond Wheezers” due to their elderly and frail nature, were jailed last year.

They ransacked 73 safe deposit boxes after drilling a hole into the vault wall, escaping with gold, diamonds and sapphires.
