A woman has been arrested following the “sudden death” of a baby boy in Ipswich today.

The death is currently being treated as “unexplained” but the woman in her 20s has been detained for questioning by police.

Officers were called to Bulstrode Road in the Suffolk town just after 10.15am.

The child, whose age hasn't been announced by police, was taken to hospital but pronounced dead after arriving.

The baby’s family has been told of the death.

A Suffolk Police statement read: “A police scene is in place while an investigation into the circumstances of the death continues.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

“As a result of subsequent enquiries connected to the investigation, a woman in her 20s has been arrested by police.

“She has been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre where she will be questioned."
