A young man has been taken to hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg in north-west London.

The man, believed to be 20, was found with a "potentially life-changing" bullet wound in Willesden, Scotland Yard said.

Police were called to reports of shots being fired at about 8.15pm and sent armed officers and a helicopter to the scene.

The victim was found in Donnington Road, near to the junction with Harlesden Road, and was taken to a hospital in central London.

One witness said a large crowd was gathered and saw the man being taken away by ambulance, before being dispersed by officers with "hefty" automatic weapons.

His condition was not thought to be life-threatening.
