Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man in his 30s was stabbed to death in Poplar.

The man was attacked in Alton Street around 2pm on Saturday and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The first man, aged 33, was arrested in Victoria that night, while the second, a 28-year-old, was arrested at 5.30pm on Sunday in Croydon.

Detectives believe the attack could have been filmed and are appealing for witnesses and footage.

They said one had fled towards Langdon Park DLR station, while the other ran in the opposite direction.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Stancombe of the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command said: "Despite the two arrests that we have made this weekend, I am keen to hear from anyone who saw two males fleeing the scene on Alton Street where one ran toward the Docklands Light Railway at Langdon Park and the other ran in the opposite direction toward Giraud Street.

"I am convinced that a number of people witnessed the incident itself or the immediate aftermath and may have filmed it on their phones. I urge those people to come forward and speak to us or provide their footage."

The death was the third in 24 hours after two men were killed within minutes of each other on Friday.
