A bloody feud between Turkish drug lords reportedly led to a fatal police shooting in north London – and was triggered by a slap in a snooker club.

A bitter war between the Tottenham Boys and the Hackney “Bombacilar” – or bombers – which has led to an estimated 10 murders in a decade is said to be behind the shooting in Wood Green on Friday.

Police shot dead a 28-year-old man as they foiled a plot to spring two would-be hitmen from a prison van on their way to Wood Green Crown Court.

According to the Times, the two men on their way to court, Izzet Eren, 32, and Erwin Amoyaw-Gyamfi, 29, were senior members of the Tottenham Boys who were caught up in the bloody gangland dispute.

The paper said an all-out war between the rival gangs - both involved in the north London heroin trade - was triggered when a member of the Eren family, who control the Tottenham Boys, slapped the leader of the Hackney Bombers at The Manor club in Finsbury Park in January 2009.

Subsequent violence involving the two gangs included the shooting of Ali Aramagan – part of the Armagan family that run the Hackney Bombers – in a car outside Turnpike Lane Tube station in 2012. Izzet Eren’s brother Zafer was killed in 2013.

Eren, 32, and Amoyaw-Gyamfi, 29, were in court on Friday for their role in an attempted assassination of members of the rival Hackney gang.

They were eventually both jailed for the attempted “professional hit” after the Met foiled the alleged jailbreak attempt.

Earlier, armed Met Police officers had surrounded a black Audi A4 where it was thought members of the Tottenham gang were waiting for the prison van.

Witnesses said a Turkish man “came out firing” before an officer shot him in the chest with an assault rifle.

The 28-year-old man died from a single bullet wound. A gun was found at the scene.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating.
