A man killed in Bow was shot and stabbed to death in a targeted attack, witnesses said today.

Brenton Roper, 41, was chased, shot and stabbed to death in a daylight “hit” yards from his home in Bow, east London on Saturday afternoon.

His death brings the total number of people killed on London’s streets to 13 in the past three weeks.

Witnesses of the murder said victim Mr Roper was set upon by three hooded men dressed in black, who ambushed him yards from his family home in Eagling Close at 4.30pm on Saturday.

He was shot and stabbed in the targeted attack, dying from his injuries at the scene an hour later.

Neighbour Farihama Shirin, 22, said: “I heard screaming and shouting so I went to the window. I saw him getting chased by a couple of boys – he hid behind the bins. I heard a gunshot, and he was already on the floor.”

Friends and family gathered to lay floral tributes and light candles in his memory.

Lee Erback, 39, spoke of his shock at his friend’s violent death, which comes less than three weeks after another friend Keith Sinclair, 60, was stabbed to death in nearby Bow Common Lane.

He told the Standard: “Brenton was a lovely bloke, everyone who knew him loved him. Everyone just can’t believe it. All these killings around the area are getting out of hand.”

Another friend described Mr Roper as a “genuine, stand-up guy who had a big heart for people he loved.”

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes of the Met’s homicide squad said: “This was a violent murder that happened in broad daylight on a Saturday afternoon.

“I am aware of a white female wearing pink trousers who was seen in Eagling Close around the time of the murder.

“Even if she doesn’t think she saw anything significant, it is vital that this person makes contact with police.”

Police have asked witnesses to contact them via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
