A female police officer suffered a broken arm when she fell more than 30ft from a wall while chasing a suspected speeding driver in north London.

The officer pursued the man after he was seen driving at high speed on the North Circular towards Wood Green at 1.22am on Friday.

She began the pursuit on foot when the man stopped the car, left the vehicle and ran from the main road.

During the chase, it is believed the officer and the man fell 10 metres, or 32ft, from a wall before they were found in Manor Cottages Approach in East Finchley.

Emergency services including ambulance, fire crews and a London Air Ambulance were called minutes later to reports of “persons falling from height”.

The officer was taken to hospital where she remains in stable condition after suffering bruising and a broken arm.

The man was found in bushes with leg injuries and also taken to hospital where his condition is described as serious but stable.

He has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A Met spokeswoman said: “A footchase ensued and an officer following the suspect sustained an injury after falling from a height.

“The suspect was subsequently found hiding in bushes and arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving and no insurance. He was also injured from the fall whilst trying to evade capture.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 1.33am to reports of persons fallen from a height near Manor Cottages.

“We treated a woman for back and arm injuries, and a man for a leg injury, at the scene and took them as a priority to hospital”.

Two other people who were in the car at the time when it was stopped were not arrested.
