The young woman whose ex-boyfriend has been convicted of killing their unborn baby in a savage street attack has spoken of the “nightmares” she has endured since.

In a victim impact statement read to the court, Malorie Bandala told of the constant reminders of her dead baby, who she named Joel, flashing across her mind “24/7”.

“You can only imagine some of the dreams and nightmares I have had to endure,” she said.

“I have to go through all this only at the age of 22.

“Joel would have been a wonderful strong man – he would have been 100 times the man that Kevin Wilson would ever be.

“I nearly lost my womb [in the attack]. I don’t think I would have lived if I had. Kevin didn’t care.”

She said the court case had reawakened her nightmares, adding: “My personal life has become public knowledge and I didn’t want it to be public.”

She went on: “I have not been allowed to grieve. I have had to put my life on hold as Kevin Wilson and [the teenager] were put on trial.

“I learned how Kevin got people to lie for him. He was not brave enough to admit to his mother that he was going to be a father.

“I have never met [the teenager] and he had no reason to kill my baby. Kevin did – he never wanted the baby.”
