A 15-year-old boy who stabbed to death an architecture student in a confrontation over conker-throwing can be named for the first time today.

Ochaine Williams, now 16, was sentenced to 10 and a half years’ detention for knifing Steven Grisales through the heart. The victim had earlier been hit by a horse chestnut.

Despite the murder conviction an Old Bailey judge refused to lift the court order banning the identification of Williams pending a possible appeal.

But today three High Court judges overturned that decision after an application by the media. Lady Justice Hallett said: “We have come down on the side of publication of the offender’s identity given the strong public interest in knowing his identity given the nature of the offence.”

Williams, of Enfield, was sentenced in June for the attack in College Close, Edmonton, in August last year. Mr Grisales, 21, was stabbed after a row with three members of the Northumberland Park Killers gang. Williams has a long criminal record and had ripped off his electronic tag when he carried out the stabbing. He had started street robberies aged 12.

The High Court was hearing a further application by the Attorney General to increase the minimum sentence. The case continues.
