A sex attacker who assaulted a stranger before stealing her handbag in a south London park has been jailed.

Julian Kingston Fenton, 43, met his victim for the first time, and the pair went together to buy drinks from a nearby shop before going to Hilly Fields Park in Lewisham.

After around an hour, the man grabbed and kissed the woman, who is in her 20s.

Despite her protests he then went on to sexually assault her before fleeing the scene with her handbag after the horrific ordeal on Halloween last year.

Fenton, of Algiers Road, Ladywell, was jailed for eight years at Woolwich Crown Court on Thursday after being found guilty of assault by penetration and robbery.

Detective Constable Dupe Mfon said: "This was a violent sexual attack on the victim who had to fight Fenton off. I commend her bravery throughout the process and hope that this result brings her some comfort."
