A “vulnerable” pensioner was tied up and doused in bleach as burglars stole her wedding ring and other sentimental jewellery.

The woman, in her early 70s, was left suffering from shock as well as head and back injuries following the terrifying ordeal in Harrow.

The victim was home alone at 8pm on October 15 when three men appeared at her door. She told them they must have had the wrong address.

Ten minutes later the trio, all white men in their early 20s, returned to the home in Sudbury Court Drive and forced their way in.

They violently tied up the victim before pouring bleach over her head and striking her with a screwdriver.

As well as her wedding ring, the men stole engagement rings and a quantity of cash. The victim was not seriously injured.

Detectives in Brent have now launched an appeal to trace the burglars, believed to be of eastern European descent.

Two are described as approximately 5 ft 8 ins tall and the other 5 ft 3 ins tall. They have slim builds and were wearing black clothing at the time.

Tests are on-going to verify that the liquid poured on the victim was indeed bleach.

Detective Constable John Gillespie of Brent CID said: "This was a cowardly and shocking burglary on a vulnerable elderly woman and I would appeal for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in Sudbury Court Drive to come forward and help us with our enquiries.

"It is a terrible thing to happen in the place where you should feel most safe and the victim has lost items of high sentimental value.”
