Four members of a gang have been jailed for a total of 76 years for a reign of violence used in their east London drug operation.

Detectives secured convictions after a four year investigation into the highly dangerous thugs who in one incident sprayed billets from an Uzi at a block of flats used by rivals.

They were jailed at the Old Bailey on Wednesday for a wide range of drug and firearms offences, including shootings in Hackney in March and May 2020.

Three brothers Ryan Gordon, 31, Jameal Gordon, 32, and Ramela Gordon, 28, were sentenced for 21 years, 25 years and 21 years respectively. They are all from the north London area.

A fourth accomplice Edwin Osei, 26, from east London, was jailed for nine years.

The Gordon brothers held positions of authority in a Hackney based gang and Osei helped the brothers in their plans to attack rival gang members, the court had heard.

After extensive surveillance detectives were able to prove that the Gordon brothers and Osei were involved in a string of firearms offences.

The Gordon brothers fired a number of rounds from the Uzi sub machine gun into a block of flats targeting an opposing gang, the jury was told.

One of the bullets injured a member of the public passing by on their way home from work.

A vast catalogue of evidence including CCTV footage was gathered by officers.

It included proof the Gordons were involved in another firearms case where a self-loading pistol was fired in a heavily pedestrianised area of Homerton on 21 May 2020.

Warrants executed at a block of flats in Lynmouth Road, Hackney, on 29 May 2020 led to the seizure of crack cocaine and heroin hidden away in lift shafts. The drugs had a combined street value of £20,000.

They also found the pistol that had been used in the Homerton shooting hidden in a shaft of the lift up to the apartment. All four men were arrested and taken into custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Webb from the Met’s Specialist Crime who led this investigation said: “These highly dangerous individuals had been heavily involved in gang violence for many years. Thanks to the hard work of my dedicated officers, they are now paying the consequences for their crimes.

“My officers worked long, strenuous hours to deliver robust evidence at court, showing our commitment to making London safe for its residents.

“The violence gang culture breeds eats into our communities’ lives – making daily life feel unsafe and frightening. The individuals that have been jailed showed no care for how their violent actions in public spaces would affect communities and were only concerned about maintaining their drug dealing enterprise and their reputation.

“We are committed to taking violent individuals off the streets, while driving down gang violence across London and restoring trust and confidence of the public in local poling. I hope this serves as a stark warning to those engaging in violence and criminality that our communities and police service will not tolerate this.”
