A Florida man has been arrested after he allegedly abandoned a child on the side of a road because he thought he was gay.

Evenaud Julmeus, 30, was charged with negligent child abuse after the boy was found crying beside a busy highway with just a small bag of clothes.

The distressed child, who has not been named, was spotted on Sunday night outside the local police department which was closed at the time, according to an official report.

An officer was called to the scene and asked the child what was wrong. He responded that Julmeus had left him on the side of the road because he thought he was gay, police said.

The boy, who is described as a juvenile, said they had got into an argument after Julmeus found "male pornography with no females" on his phone.

When the 30-year-old found the videos “he became very upset” the Haines City police affidavit states.

Julmeus then allegedly told the child to pack a bag and get into the car. He then drove him to the police station and told him to get out.

“The police will find you a new home,” he reportedly said, before doing a U-turn and driving off.

“The defendant did not even pull into the parking lot of the Police department, but rather stopped in the turning lane on Highway 27 and made the victim exit the vehicle,” the report says.

The boy had no food, water or money with him, nor any means of contacting anyone.

“The defendant willfully left the boy at a closed police department with no one around, failing (...) to provide the victim with care, supervision and services necessary to maintain physical or mental health,” Haines Valley Police said.

“He also failed to protect the victim from abuse, neglect or exploitation of others.”

Julmeus turned himself into police and remains in custody.
