A man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was stabbed multiple times next to a rail station in east London during the early hours of this morning.

The 26-year-old victim was attacked close to Dalston Kingsland station at about 5.15am today.

Police were called to the scene in Kingsland High Street, Hackney, where they found the man suffering from stab injuries, Scotland Yard said.

Paramedics took him to an east London hospital for treatment. He remains in a critical condition this morning, police said.

The road was closed "until further notice" next to the junction with Dalston Lane while police investigated, Hackney Police tweeted.

Dalston Kingsland station was also closed following the attack, Transport for London said.

Detectives in Hackney today appealed for any witnesses to speak to them.

In a statement, a spokesman for Scotland Yard said: "Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a man was stabbed in Hackney.

"Officers were called at approximately 5:15am today to reports of a man suffering stab injuries in Kingsland High Street, near the junction with Dalston Lane, E8.

"London Ambulance Service also attended and the man, aged 26, was taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

"Enquiries into the circumstances continue and officers from Hackney are investigating. There have been no arrests."
