This is the first picture of a man who died after he was stabbed in an attack by a gang armed with knives and baseball bats in east London.

Raja Rashid Ali, 33, was killed after a group of up to a dozen men launched an assault on the driver and passengers of a parked car in Dagenham on Sunday night, police say.

Video footage from the scene in Stansgate Road appears to show a 4x4 being rammed into a blue Renault Megane, before another car pulls up alongside.

Six men can be seen jumping out of the 4x4 before seeming to unleash a hail of blows with weapons as the driver and passengers try to scramble free.

Mr Ali, from Elm Park, was inside the blue car with two other men when they allegedly came under attack, police said.

Detectives from the Met’s Homicide Command launched a murder investigation into the death of Mr Ali, from Elm Park, who collapsed around the corner in Braintree Road.

Paramedics fought to save him but he died at the scene from multiple stab wounds at 7.30pm on Sunday. His next of kin have been informed.

Three men aged 21 and a fourth in his early 20s have been arrested on suspicion of murder, police said.

All four have been taken into custody at an east London police station for questioning.

A post mortem examination carried out on Monday gave Mr Ali’s cause of death as stab wounds, police said.

Officers continue to appeal for witnesses and anyone who has information about the killing.

Detective Chief Inspector David Whellams, who is leading the investigation for the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “At this very early stage we are working to establish the motive, but we know that Raja was in a vehicle with two other men which stopped in Stansgate Road outside Costcutter, when they were involved in an altercation with a number of others who were travelling in two other vehicles.

“The suspects left the scene in these two vehicles. The incident took place outside a busy supermarket and I am confident there are more witnesses who have information. I urge them to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8345 3775 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or atcrimestoppers-uk.org.
