This shocking image shows the horrific injuries inflicted on a south London pensioner by a thugs who robbed him of £300 in a callous daylight attack.

Albert Wright, 88, was left with a swollen black eye and bruised face after his attackers targeted him for his pension on Monday morning.

Mr Wright was targeted in Oakland Avenue in Norbury, Croydon , as he returned home with his cash.

The pensioner, who recently was fitted with a pace-maker, was knocked to the ground during the attack and smashed his face on the pavement.

One suspect left Mr Wright lying in the road and sped off in black Mercedes with an accomplice, police said.

He told the Standard: “I went down to Norbury to collect my pension.

“As I got off the bus I felt weak so I sat down on a bench at the bus stop for a while. When I felt well enough I turned in to Oakland Avenue.

“All of a sudden I heard a bang, they threw me to the floor and I hit my face, they stole my bag, my phone and £300 in cash.

“I was so shocked, it all happened very suddenly.

“It was scary, anything could have happened to me.”

Nigel Hackett, a close friend of Mr Wright who met the pensioner at a local karaoke night, has set up a fundraising page to raise back the money that was stolen

“We all go to a karaoke venue in Norbury on Fridays, we are like a big family. When we found out about the attack we were shocked an angry, I spoke to my partner and we decided to do something about it.

“They could have killed him all for the sake of £300.”

So far the Go Fund Me page has raised £354, but Mr Hackett said he hopes that the total will reach its £1000 goal.

The Metropolitan police are currently investigating the incident, so far no one has been arrested.

A spokesman said: “A robbery took place at 10.50am on August 13 on Oaklands Avenue.

“A man in his late 80s was approached from behind by a man who grabbed his bag and threw the victim to the ground.

“The man then fled in a waiting black Mercedes driven by another man.

“The victim received a head injury as a result of falling.

"Both suspects were black.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.”
