A City lawyer who once rowed for England lifted up a woman’s skirt and slapping her bottom five times after calling her an “Australian slut” and pouring a beer over her, a court heard today.

Alastair Main, 35, from Kingston-upon-Thames, is alleged to have sexually and racially assaulted the 27-year-old woman at London Rowing Club in Putney in December last year.

Main, who was a national rowing champion in 2003 and represented England at that year’s Home International Regatta, who denies the charges, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Paul Douglass said that the defendant had poured a beer over the alleged victim and then pursued her into the ladies’

He told the court: “She had gone to clean up. He followed her until the ladies loos, pulled up her skirt and slapped her bottom approximately five times.”

The prosecutor said that he had called her an “Australian slut” several times and poured a drink over her.

The alleged victim said: “He asked me for a hug. He was leaning on the bar and trying to be affectionate he wanted some affection from me. He had drunk a few beers. I turned him down I said ‘I don’t think so’.

His demeanour changed like something had snapped. I knew that was not a good sign.”

The alleged victim said: “Mr Main poured a pint of beer over my head. It went everywhere.

“He called me an Australian slut, it was so humiliating.

“He was aggressive. I felt scared. I was covered in beer he came up behind me and pulled my hair and pushed me forward. I went straight to the bathroom to fix myself up. I could hear heavy footsteps coming into the ladies bathroom. He appeared saying “Where do you think you are going?’”

“He called me a slut again. He started to slap me. He was pulling my hair and slapping my head. He pulled my skirt up and asked me if I was wearing knickers.”

Main denies the allegations.

The trial continues.
