Dozens of tributes have been paid to a young father who was stabbed to death outside an east London Tube station last night.

The victim, named locally as 31-year-old Luther "Beanz" Edwards, died in hospital after he was knifed in the chest outside Bethnal Green Tube station in front of horrified passengers.

Police have launched a murder probe following the incident, which happened at about 11pm yesterday.

Witnesses said violence started during a boxing event at the iconic York Hall, before spilling out into the street.

Today, devasted friends and relatives of Mr Edwards, who was believed to be the father of two young daughters, have paid tribute to him on social media.

Friend Kimberley Chaters-Walker said on Facebook: "I am utterly in shock to hear such sad news.

"Sending my condolences to all the family and friends.

"I still can't even find the right words to say right now. Another life taken too soon.

"Rest in peace my friend Luther aka Beanz."

Leo Naphtali Blair wrote earlier today: "Sad news this morning, I'm heartbroken. Rest In Power my bro Luther Edwards Beanz Leon."

Marlon Johnson said: "My big brother. Got the call last night and still not trying to believe it. Words can't explain.

"Love you bro see you on the other side... Rest in peace Beanz aka Luther aka older brother."

And Junior Atkins wrote: "Shock, sadness, anger, loss and love. The emotions I'm feeling right now.

"You was the baby, watched you grow, I called you 'Young Blood' you called me 'Old G'.

"You always said how you looked up to me and I would laugh and say why? We would kick you up the a*** and tell you to go home because you were to young to be hanging on the block. But you grew and the kicks up the a*** stopped promptly.

"The last years I've looked up to you, what a great man you turned out to be, what a great father you are to your daughters."

Detectives from Scotland Yard's Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating the incident.

A spokesman said: "At this early stage it is believed the victim had been at a boxing event held at York Hall on Old Ford Road after which an altercation involving numerous people appears to have taken place.

"Detectives are keeping an open mind as regards any motive at this stage and are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward."

Anyone with any information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8345 3715, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via Crimestoppers-uk.org.
