Next April, for one month only, travel planning company Luxury Action will be setting up a ‘pop-up’ hotel in the North Pole.

With 10 heated ‘igloos’ (read: luxury domes), guests will be able to sleep under the stars and watch the aurora borealis play in the sky above them.

But a stay at the world’s northernmost ‘hotel’ will come with a cost – as guests will need to fork out around €95K per person for a one-night stay at the North Pole and two-night stay at Svalbard, the archipelago halfway between Norway and the North Pole.

The three-night trip will also include all flights and logistics, an arctic wilderness guide, personal chef and security services to protect guests from local wildlife like polar bears, seals and reindeer.

Speaking to the Standard, founder of Luxury Action Janne Honkanen says: "Guests can expect minus 20 degree temperatures, beautiful arctic landscapes and lots of educational information on the nature of the Arctic."

The igloos, which have been tested in extreme Arctic weather conditions, all have their own bathrooms with a glass ceiling and glass walls.

April is the only month of the year that travellers can safely visit the North Pole – it can be reached by helicopter during this month and by ship in June and July. Only around a thousand tourists visit the North Pole each year.

Honkanen continues: "I believe in transformative travel, which means that we connect guests with local culture, local people, surrounding nature and its wildlife.

"At the same time, the North Pole is the ideal place to provide information of our climate's situation and our guests are the best messengers to the world. We compensate out travels by planting trees and recycling in order to have a negative carbon footprint."
