Has Edward Scissorhands had a haircut? No, silly, it’s Hedi Slimane, the sad-eyed, new(ish) creative director of Yves Saint Laurent, who had the chutzpah to drop the ‘Yves’ from the iconic label’s ready-to-wear collection, and who has recently bumped R-Patz off the top of our sexy goths list.

And before you say, ‘But how can a man who (practically) shares a name with a bepigtailed Swiss girl be so seriously swoonsome?’ Well, firstly, it’s pronounced ‘Edi’. And we’ve a lot to thank this photographer, designer and fashion demigod for: not least hot guys in skinny jeans, Pete Doherty’s fashion renaissance, Russell Brand’s better days, and the fauxhawk, which thanks to Slimane became the hipster’s go-to hairdo ten years ago. Oh, how we’d love Slimane to be our (gay) boyfriend. We’d dress in black and hang out at Paris nightclub Silencio with Bowie, Beck and his other rock-star friends. Karl Lagerfeld lost 80lb just so he could fit into Slimane’s suits... we’ll crash-diet for a date with Hedi if that’s what it takes.
