The Crush: Beyoncé and Solange

Because the Knowles sisters are doing it for themselves
Lotte Jeffs1 February 2013

One is a zillion-selling pop super-diva who sang (or mimed?) the National Anthem for the President and is married to a rap mogul; the other is a style icon whose songs are played on Girls and who hangs out with indie bands. Don’t make us choose between Beyoncé and Solange, it would end in tears.

We crush the Knowles sisters equally (but if we had to pick one to spend a night with, it would be Beyoncé, only because we’ve already danced to 1990s R&B at a pub in Dalston with Solange and we are gagging to share an equally special moment with queen B). It must also be noted that if we are ever lucky enough to find ourselves in the presence of both siblings at the same time, we cannot be held responsible for our actions — screeching, hysterical ‘I need a halo, halo, halo’ outbursts will inevitably ensue. What we love best is that this is no competitive sister act; Beyoncé lets Solange steal the fashion limelight, while Sol wouldn’t dare step on big sis’s toes when it comes to powerful put-a-ring-on-it pop. But as the younger Knowles becomes known for her music (new EP ‘Losing You’ is the soundtrack du jour) as much as for her natty print-clash suits and fab ’fro, we can only hope the pair invite us into their fold before things have a chance to go all Gallagher brothers.
