Man up: Men's Fashion Week hits London in style

As the inaugural London Collections: Men comes to town today, we showcase the latest looks from the capital’s finest designers
1/6

Jonathan Saunders

The S/S 2013 collection is ‘inspired by David Bowie and Op Art prints,’ says Jonathan Saunders, Anna Wintour’s favourite Brit designer, who’s turned his hand to menswear. You can also expect some sharp tailoring, softened up with knitwear, at his show tomorrow.

E Tautz

In Patrick Grant’s A/W 2012 collection he uses large fabric shapes with few seams, drawing on the flowing, uninterrupted sculpture of Richard Serra, plus an occasional flash of scarlet. For his S/S 2013 show tomorrow, he will take inspiration from ‘the shapes and colours of the 19th-century Abyssinian men’s dress: priests’ robes in pink, fuchsia and yellow,’ he says.

Hackett

‘Without a doubt the blazer in whatever form is the equivalent of the little black dress,’ says Jeremy Hackett. The A/W 2012 ‘modern prep’ collection was inspired by Oxbridge collegiate life and features cropped jackets, narrow trousers and bright bow ties for a contemporary feel. For his S/S 2013 show today at the Royal Opera House, a quintessentially British mix with sporting and Mediterranean references is sure to hit the right note.

Topman

For his S/S 2013 collection showing today, Gordon Richardson has looked to early skate and surf culture, with layered silhouettes using technical lazer-cut nylons and a smattering of Jean Michel Basquiat rebelliousness.

Paul Smith

Portobello on Sea was the idea behind the A/W 2012 collection, with anchor and jellyfish motifs, naval coats and fluoro accents running through it. For his S/S 2013 show today, he promises even more quirks and surprises.

Pringle

The A/W 2012 collection features bottle greens and bright blues on luxury staples such as waffle-knit V-necks and cashmere rollnecks. Tomorrow’s S/S 2013 show designed by Alistair Carr will feature textured summer knits with an air of the adventurer about them.

Rake

The inspiration for Rake’s A/W 2012 collection (right) was the moment in the 1960s and 1970s when rock stars and racing drivers were invited to join the upper echelon of society. The S/S 2013 collection showing tomorrow draws on the souks of Marrakech, blending dusty pinks and sky blues with vivid agates, according to creative director Clive Darby.
