Best for the very greedy

Flesh & Buns

From the people who brought us Bone Daddies’ ramen noodle soups, Flesh & Buns offers more than just rolls with meat or fish, but you’d be mad to miss out on the self-assembly bun action. Order sea bass, duck leg, steak or lamb chops and stuff into the accompanying steamed buns, drizzle with sauce and garnish with pickles (from £13).

Best for traditional treats

Jubo

This is a no-reservations, Korean canteen-style venue, with wooden tables and bare brick walls, that buzzes with chatter and clatter. Go for the hirata-style buns (from £3.50) — steamed buns with northern Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean influences — stuffed with braised beef, pork belly or mushrooms.

Best for lunch on the run

Yum Bun

The award-winning street-food van now has a semi-permanent home. Its delicate steamed buns are pillow-soft and stuffed with delicious fillings such as sticky ginger and chilli salmon, Japanese-style fried chicken or slow-roasted pork (from £3.50). You can find the van in various locations and at Kerb food events.
