The Duchess of Sussex ‘broke tradition’ on Saturday night by giving a speech at her wedding to Prince Harry.

While royal brides don’t traditionally give wedding speeches, Meghan decided she would take this opportunity to thank her friends and family as well as thanking the royals for taking her under their wing.

According to a ‘source’, Meghan thanked Prince Charles and the Royal Family for welcoming both her and her mother, Doria Ragland, into the ‘Firm’.

The source told Metro: “She has been so touched by how welcoming the Prince of Wales has been. So is her mother.

“It was important to her to make a point of thanking him publicly, although, of course, he knows privately how she feels.”

An afternoon reception was held for the 600 wedding guests at Windsor Castle after Saturday’s noon ceremony, and this was followed by a more intimate reception for close family and friends at Frogmore House.

Prince Charles stepped in to walk Meghan down the aisle after her father pulled out at the last minute due to health complications. A gesture that ‘touched’ the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as we saw Prince Harry say, “Thanks Pa” to Charles as he and Meghan reached the end of the aisle.

While most details of the reception have been kept under wraps, the palace revealed that Elton John performed at the afternoon reception and pictures showed an impressive fireworks display capping off the night outside Windsor Castle.

The later reception apparently featured a ‘naughty speech’ from best man Prince William and the sit-down dinner, that lasted from 7:30pm to 10pm, was a ‘spring meets summer’ theme.

After the second reception, guests are understood to have made their way back to London for an after party at Chiltern Firehouse in Marylebone.
