Winter might no longer be actually coming but the much-anticipated Game of Thrones eighth and final season is premiering on Sunday.

Enter: the 'Game of Thrones facial' - dubbed so because once the face mask dries, you end up look as terrifying as a White Walker.

I combined my personal obsession with the franchise with the need to combat my flaky winter skin by paying the Williamsburg studio Skin by Molly a visit.

I've actually received the intense facial - real name 'DMK firming enzyme mask' - a number of times. And it's not just a social media photo-moment, like some buzzy beauty experiences, it really works - especially for skin that needs more than the regular round of extractions and steam. The first time I had the mask put on, however, I was definitely not ready for what came next. It sits for about 30 minutes, clinging to your face, and by the end of the treatment, I was ready to take it off myself.

"The DMK firming enzyme mask is going to work with the body’s natural chemistry," explains aesthetician and studio owner Molly Lamb as she applies my mask. "It’s offering a very powerful lymphatic drainage."

Lamb says that the lymph system serves as a central part of the immune system, so lymphatic drainage helps with a whole slew of issues. She explains the lymph system is credited with maintaining the body’s fluid balance, blood circulation and immune mechanisms - basically providing detoxification for the entire body.

The enzyme mask stimulates circulation when it hardens, forcing the body to start pumping blood and oxygen to the area.

The mask tightens up over time, making this not your average relaxing facial. Instead, it becomes almost cast-like in structure, which means moving parts of your face and even talking become difficult. "When I describe the mask people are definitely nervous," Lamb admits.

I've started bringing my phone in with me to avoid those antsy last few minutes (and to snap selfies to scare people, obviously).

The procedure isn't just for Game of Thrones superfans, however. "Anyone can benefit from lymphatic drainage," Lamb explains. "It’s especially great for hyperpigmentation and acne - anyone who really wants bright, clear skin, this is life changing for. And [for] age management, we’ve got you covered there too, because when the skin is strong and healthy and functioning properly, it’s going to age slower."

Thankfully once the mask comes off, you leave looking nothing like a White Walker.
