As awards season came to a close, Hollywood played host to the most eagerly anticipated and star-studded ceremony of them all and, in turn, the most intensely scrutinised red carpet of the year.

And with the likes of Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep, Ruth Negga, Naomie Harris and Nicole Kidman all up for awards, this year's Oscars were one of the most stylish yet.

One of the early arrivals on this year's red carpet was Best Actress nominee Negga, who stunned in coral red custom Valentino.

A high neck lace gown, the actress was effortlessly elegant with her hair pulled back beneath a deeper red beaded hairband.

And fellow Best Actress nominee Stone didn't let the side down either, as she arrived a little while later in a romantic gold Twenties flapper-esque gown with layered fringing by Givenchy haute couture.

With her red locks swept into a dramatic side parting and styled in old-school Hollywood waves, Stone wore minimal eye make-up with a sweep of scarlet across the lip.

Winner of the 2016 Best Supporting Actress gong Alicia Vikander was, as ever, red carpet royalty this evening as she arrived in a black lace Louis Vuitton dress with a ruffled ra-ra skirt falling into a waterfall hemline.

Wearing her hair up in a loose high bun, Vikander accessorised with black laced sandals and a statement diamond necklace.

Stepping out in brand new Spring 2017 couture Chanel was Sofia Boutella, who plumped for one of the collection's stand out pieces.

A silver sequinned gown with white marabou feather skirting, the 34-year-old actress was the epitome of modern elegance as she left her trademark dark hair and short, blunt fringe relatively simple and kept her accessories to a minimum.

Another star impressing on this evening's red carpet was Chrissy Teigen who arrived in white Zuhair Murad alongside her husband John Legend, who wore Gucci.

A gown which accentuated every inch of her model figure, its thigh-high split and cinched waist were balanced out by a long sleeve and high neckline.
