Rihanna to receive Fashion Icon of the Year award

The singer has been dubbed 'the most exciting style ambassador in recent memory'

Rihanna has been announced as the next recipient of the Fashion CFDA Icon of the Year Award 2014.

Previous recipients of the award include the likes of Kate Moss and Lady Gaga.

The 26-year-old singer has made a name for herself in fashion as well as music, befriending Karl Lagerfeld, starring in Balmain's Spring 2014 ad campaign and designing two limited edition collections for River Island.

CEO of CFDA Steven Kolb said in a statement: "We are proud to present Rihanna with the CFDA Fashion Icon Award for her impact on the industry as fashion’s most exciting ambassador in recent memory."

The star will be presented with the award on June 2, at the Lincoln Center in New York.
