Just days after a sartorial blackout at the Golden Globes proved fashion can be a powerful tool in making a statement, some colour emerged at last night's Critics Choice Awards.

But only some.

Many women, most notably Time's Up founders Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern, opted for black looks once again, to underscore the principles behind the Time's Up initiative.

Reese looked glamorous in an crystal-embellished black Prada cocktail dress.

Many celebrities opted for white and monochrome ensembles that oozed femininity and power.

Continuing the all-white trend, Kate Bosworth and Diane Kruger also dazzled in simple chic ensembles.

Kate wore an ethereal lace gown from the Brock collection, featuring long sleeves, an embellished neckline, and a giant bow accent on one side. While Diane Kruger looked effortless in a gown from Vera Wang's Spring 2018 collection.

And Alison Brie nailed red carpet insouciance in Roberto Cavalli.

In the wake of last week's red carpet blackout, stars certainly opted for a more muted colour palette at this event. And yet while the 'blue carpet' wasn't bursting with colour, it was most definitely rocking a sartorial storm.
