The 2018 Fashion Awards is taking place this evening at the Royal Albert Hall.

The annual event, hosted by the British Fashion Council, celebrates the best designers, emerging talent and models in the industry. One of the most coveted categories of them all is 'Model of the Year'.

Last year Adwoa Aboah took home the prestigious gong, the year before it was Gigi Hadid and, prior to that, a whole host of household names, from Jourdan Dunn to Cara Delevingne, have scooped the accolade.

But who will be crowned the winner in 2018, we take a closer look at the candidates...

The first name that stands out on the nominees list is Adut Akech.

You may not know her name, but the 18-year-old has been quietly making her mark in the fashion industry for the past year. She made her fashion week runway debut exclusively for Saint Laurent in 2016 and went on to strut her stuff for almost every designer, including Chanel, Versace, Prada, Burberry, Dior, Givenchy, McQueen... You get the picture.

The Sudanese-Australian model, who was born in a refugee camp in South Sudan, has also landed some very impressive campaigns with brands like Valentino and Moschino, as well as featuring in the prestigious 2018 Pirelli Calender.

Needless to say, Adut is the one to watch.

If you thought she had a successful 2017, just wait until you've looked at her 2018 résumé. From fronting Burberry campaigns to walking more catwalk shows during the spring/summer 2019 season than we dare to count, she has been one busy bee. The model also runs her passion project, Gurls Talk - an online safe space for women to talk about the issues that affect them.

Taking to Instagram after hearing the news, Aboah said: "After one hell of a year with many huge achievements, juggling the love of my life @gurlstalk and activism, chronic exhaustion and lots of hard work, words couldn’t possibly begin to explain what this means to myself, my team, agents and family who none of this would have been possible without."

Bella Hadid

Obviously one of the Hadid sisters had to make the list, and it was Bella Hadid who received a nomination for the third year running.

2018 has undoubtedly been Bella's biggest year to date. She's the face of Dior Beauty, has starred on numerous Vogue covers (including British Vogue) and has really hit her stride on the catwalk, becoming one of the most coveted models during fashion week.

Kaia Gerber

The youngest of the nominees is 17-year-old Kaia Gerber, who was also up for the gong last year.

The daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber has gone from strength to strength since bursting onto the fashion scene just days after her 16th birthday.

2018 has seen the teenager front a campaign with her brother for Calvin Klein, walk more catwalks than Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid combined and launch her first fashion collaboration with none other than Karl Lagerfeld.

Last but not least, Winnie Harlow.

The model who suffers from skin condition vitiligo has gained prominence over the years since appearing on America's Next Top Model.

The 24-year-old has already been rewarded for her achievements this year, recently picking up Breakthrough Model Of The Year at Daily Front Row's Fashion Media Awards.
