Do you dream in shoes? Or simply love a good doodle?

If ever there was a time to get out the sketchpad it’s now, and today Jimmy Choo has given us the perfect motivation to get creative.

Jimmy Choo’s creative director Sandra Choi has this week launched a sketching competition on Instagram called ‘Choo Sketch’ in which the brand’s followers are invited to sketch their fantasy shoe designs and email in a photo of their finished sketch before May 15.

At the end of the six weeks, Choi will shortlist 10 sketches to be put to a final vote on the brand’s Instagram.

The five finalists chosen by the audience on Instagram will then get to see their dream shoe brought to life as part of a forthcoming collection, all the proceeds of which will be donated to a charity within the Jimmy Choo Foundation, in addition to receiving a pair of their own to keep.

“I wanted to share my love of sketching with the Jimmy Choo community in the hope it will provide a moment of escape whilst we are all united by the challenges we are currently facing together,” says Choi. “To put an idea together on paper is second nature to me. Sketching is part of my creative process as I sort through multiple ideas but more than that it can also act as a form of escape for me. It helps to soothe, calm and focus my head.”

To get everyone’s inner cordwaining creativity flowing, Choi will be posting sketches of her own each week, each designed to symbolise a message of positivity. The first sketch, entitled Optimism, takes inspiration from the blossom trees in Sandra’s garden during isolation with the tag line ‘let’s blossom again soon.’

“For my first CHOO Sketch I have created a fantasy shoe that takes inspiration from the pure beauty of blossom contrasting against an infinite blue sky backlit with rays of golden sunlight,” she says. “Our lives are on pause but nature continues to weave her magic, that helps to fuel my optimism.”

As part of the global effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jimmy Choo Foundation will donate $500,000 (£406,600) to be distributed equally supporting aid relief efforts both in the brand’s home country of the United Kingdom and also globally.

The donations will support those impacted by the disease and prevent further infection via the NHS COVID-19 Urgent Appeal (more info here) and the World Health Organisation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund (more info here).

The deadline for entries is Friday May 15 and winners will be announced on Monday June 8.
