Goal achieved - Kate scores with sage-green coat

To attend the opening of The FA’s new national training site today, the Duchess of Cambridge didn’t - as football fans had hoped - wear an England scarf to meet Roy Hodgson et al, but instead opted for a sage-green woollen coat.

The coat, which is A-line in silhouette, features a roll-detail collar. She wore it cinched in with a crocodile belt in chocolate brown.

Her choice of footwear was equally unsportswomanly. While flat shoes or even (gasp) trainers might have been a more suitable option for an afternoon spent on the pitch with Steven Gerrard, Kate wore a pair of slip-on suede boots. Still, I suppose, they are a damn sight more practical than her usual LK Bennett wedges.

Today’s outfit demonstrates Kate's continued support for this season’s trend for “one colour” dressing. While sludge green was the object of her affection this afternoon, yesterday she chose a claret two-piece suit by luxury label Paule Ka.

The Royal couple were given a tour of the 330 Acre site which includes 12 full-size pitches, sports medicine and sports science facilities, two hotels and a conference centre.
