Givenchy has unveiled its first campaign by newly-appointed artistic director Clare Waight Keller.

After much speculation, it was announced in January that Waight Keller would be leaving French fashion house Chloé after six years at the label.

Departing the brand in March after her last Chloé runway at Paris Fashion Week, it was announced that the designer would be taking up the role of artistic director at Givenchy in May.

Replacing Riccardo Tisci, who announced his departure in January, these first teaser images mark Waight Keller's debut material in her new position.

"I love the simplicity of these portraits and the engaging directness of the subjects’ gaze," she said of the campaign.

"It evokes the bold, powerful and very graphic quality Hubert de Givenchy gave to everything he designed."

Having explored the Givenchy archives, Waight Keller discovered the house's founder shared her love of animals and was particularly mesmerized by the discovery of a collection of silk prints from 1953 featuring a feline with orange eyes.

In this preview to Waight Keller's official debut for the French fashion house, models Saffron Vadher, Meghan Roche, Elias Bouremah and Kolton Bowen are photographed wearing lace shirts and tuxedo pants whilst holding their cats.

The Givenchy collars worn by the cats will also be available for purchase.

"I love the idea of a woman with a feline air," Waight Keller revealed.

"A person may seem slightly reserved, but they have that serene, straightforward gaze. They’re seductive. You want to meet them, know more about them, and be like them. I wanted to play with that modern attitude and expression because I feel like it’s an apt metaphor for Givenchy’s current evolution."

Waight Keller will showcase her debut Givenchy collection of both menswear and womenswear together at Paris Fashion Week in October.
