A penchant for pushing the boundaries of fashion, Elvis had a signature aesthetic that is still being emulated today

A key instigator behind the menswear jumpsuit, Elvis Presley is continuing to influence the male aesthetic 40 years on from his passing.

With an exhibition of his career at the O2 hosting 40 of his one-pieces, the King remains posthumously on trend as jumpsuits once again become a staple.

No doubt a look re-ignited by the likes of Miuccua Prada and Louis Vuitton - both loyal purveyors of the male romper - Elvis was a trend-setter within his own right.

Undeterred by the style of his contemporaries, he was particularly fond of outlandish prints and outrageous collars.

But while his on-stage garb remains distinctive and inimitable to this day - although endless impersonators may say otherwise - his down-time look was often that of a casually well-dressed and more modest man.

High-waisted jeans with turned-up cuffs, denim jackets and roll necks featured heavily in the star's wardrobe, saving his Hawaiian shirts and cobalt jumpsuits for the stage.

His legendary pompadour hairstyle has also re-appeared on many men's radar, with Zayn Malik, David Beckham and Bruno Mars all having experimented with the look.

And while we entirely advocate of the longevity of the King of Rock and Roll's sartorial influence, the oversized, bejeweled collars and thick sideburns are welcome to remain in the 70s.
